Wastewater Treatment Wetlands Capstone Team
Exploring natural wastewater treatment through constructed-wetland design.

Collaborative educational planning on a working family landscape.

On October 15, 2026, Virginia Tech faculty and students met with multiple generations of the Mosley family to learn the property's history, discuss its current condition, and begin collaborative planning. On October 16, 2026, the team completed an on-site visit to the farm.
Wastewater Treatment Wetlands Capstone Team
Exploring natural wastewater treatment through constructed-wetland design.
Nutrient Management Capstone Team
Exploring nutrient recycling, soil health, and regenerative resource management.
Landscape Architecture Participation
Studying property characteristics, land-use opportunities, drainage, terrain, and possible layout concepts.
The family participated through storytelling, love letters to the land, property-mapping exercises, and a prioritization activity. The approach is collaborative: students are helping design the farm with the family, not for the family.
This is collaborative educational planning. Preliminary design work is not final engineering. No university endorsement, funding, construction approval, or commercial deployment has been granted.
These priorities shape how ULM Farms and its partners focus research, design, and learning across the property.
Regenerative soil and nutrient management
Black soldier fly production
Aquaponics and aquaculture
Ecological water and wastewater management
Agricultural engineering and controlled-environment systems
Bamboo, biochar, and sustainable biomass
Agricultural education and community development
Practical models for sustaining inherited family farmland
We invite qualified researchers, university departments, Extension professionals, and technical partners to express interest in collaborating with ULM Farms.
