What Our Ancestors Built Sustained a Family. What We Build Next Can Help Sustain Generations.

The story of a family, a farm, and a legacy still growing in Jackson, Tennessee.

The Land and the Family

A family farm, worked by hand for generations.

Beginning in the 1950s, the Mosley family purchased and worked this land in Madison County, raising a large family and building a largely self-sufficient agricultural operation. The farm was the center of daily life. Children worked the fields after school. Summers were spent picking, preserving, and helping wherever hands were needed.

The family grew cotton, corn, potatoes, okra, sugarcane, and vegetables. They raised livestock, preserved food for the winter, and smoked meat. They made molasses. They wove baskets and built rocking chairs. A school once operated on the property.

The farm provided more than food. It provided life lessons, skills, security, and opportunity, and a work ethic that still runs through the family today.

“When you pour into people, what you give continues to grow through future generations.”

A family theme shared at the October 2026 gathering

The most lasting thing our ancestors grew was people. They invested in their children and grandchildren, and that investment is the reason this land is still in the family and still has a future. ULM Farms is the next chapter of that tradition.
