Soil biology

Our vision for ULM Farms as a living classroom for schools, families, and communities.
ULM Farms is being shaped to welcome schools, families, and neighbors, and to share what the land can teach about soil, food, water, and stewardship.
Ten hands-on topics, drawn from the systems under consideration for the farm, that could anchor field days, workshops, and lessons.
Soil biology
Composting
Pollinators
Water conservation
Food production
Aquaponics
Insects and nutrient cycling
Food preservation
Bamboo applications
Regenerative agriculture
Imagine a child kneeling in a garden bed, turning compost with a hand trowel, watching red wiggler worms work, then following that same soil to a plate of food they helped grow. ULM Farms envisions a children’s agricultural education experience built around discovery, hands-on work, and the stories of the people who farmed this land before them.
Program design is in development. No official mascot or named character has been established.
The family’s goals include teaching people to grow and preserve their own food, improving access to healthy food, and bringing new life and opportunity to the surrounding community, including longtime residents and older adults.
Educational programming, facilities, tours, and registration are future opportunities. No tours, classes, or bookings are currently available.
